After seeing Eric Curts’ very helpful post about the Google Sheets Timeline Tool, I decided to experiment. What if a teacher wanted their students to research individual events or eras and enter them onto the same timeline? We know that having a bunch of kids edit the same Sheet simultaneously can be a hit mess. For cleaner data, start with a Google Form.
First, set up the questions to match the headings you’ll want for the Timeline tool.
Next, create a spreadsheet from the form.
Use the instructions from Google (or use Eric’s post linked above) to use the Timeline tool.
Once it’s set up, your Form results should populate the timeline tab.
I can imagine this being used by a history teacher whose students are each researching a specific event. The end result would be a timeline that would not only share info about the event but would help students visualize the temporal relationships amongst these events.
Note: I used conditional formatting to color-code cells in one column which then color-coded each card.
I hope you find my experiment useful!
