NECC Envy
If you’re anything like me, you get all sorts of brochures and emails about great edtech conferences – NECC, FETC, CoSGN, METC, TIE, TIES, etc… – but rarely find the time and funding to attend.
Fortunately, many of the presenters, as well as those who attend, post much of the conference content online. Some tools to “mine” for conference content:
1. Go to Technorati and enter the tag or tags appropriate to the conference. This can be a little tricky. NECC could be tagged as NECC, NECC06, NECC_06, NECC2006… Experiment. It will be worth the surfing. The same technique will work with Flickr to view conference images and del.icio.us to view favorite bookmarks.
2. Google it. Go to Google and enter your search criteria, such as necc 2006 presentation resources. Many of the presenters’ sites and resources will be available this way.
3. Go to the conference website. Most of the major conferences will link to preso details, presentation slides, podcasts, video on demand/vodcasts, etc., for the most recent conference.
It’s not quite the same as attending the conference, but it may be the next best thing. We can take advantage of the eyes, ears, and blogs of fellow edtech geeks to compile the best of the best so we can be inspired, if only from a distance, to boldly go where so few have gone before… Â
