COVID 19 – Resources to Share

About two weeks ago, discussions around COVID 19 led me to start preparing just in case my school needed to close. I stumbled upon a Facebook group – Educator Temporary School Closure for Online Learning. At the time, there were a few hundred members. By this past Sunday, there were around 7,000. By Monday, there were over 8,000. As I write this there are close to 30,000 members. It’s an active group, and it’s the best resource I’ve found. Teachers from around the globe have connected to support and share. Wonderful group.

As a Twitter geek, I’ve found a few hashtags helpful as well: #remotelearning #coronalearn #distancelearning #onlinelearing #virtualschool . From these hashtags, I began to learn of companies offering their products to schools dealing with or planning for closures. I’m no fool. I know it’s a mutually beneficial offer. Educators are desperate for tools that can be useful in a newly online environment and have no budgets this late in the year. Many of their administrators, knowing online environments are new territory, give educators more license to explore possibilities, realizing engaging students from afar can be challenging. The companies benefit by getting their products in the hands of educators. It’s a wise investment that builds goodwill with potential customers.

I decided to create a Google Doc listing each tool I learned of, just in case my teachers needed them. Of course, not all schools have tech integrationists, and many are having to respond so quickly that they’re in a serious bind. For this reason, I’m sharing my list publicly. If you have resources to share, please let me know. My contact info is in the doc. Please share as you see fit. We’re all in this together.

Thank you! As a parent first, struggling with this no-school limbo, trying to find resources to keep my kids’ brains engaged has been difficult. Thank you so much for this!
