I teach middle school computer science in a rotation block. At my school, this means my students see me either right after PE (2 days per cycle) or after Compass (a discussion-based course). When Compass falls on a day when my class happens in the afternoon, my kiddos NEED some physical activity to energize. My recent go-to tool is the YouTube Channel from UJU Videos, specifically Brain Breaks.
Here’s the one we did in class today:
These brain breaks are short (typically under 5 minutes) and well-invested time. They’re engaging, they involve physical activity, and they’re fun ice-breakers, too. I’ve been using them with 6th graders, but they could be good across elementary and middle grades. Some high school classes might have fun, too.
Enjoy!
